Our Story

Three Generations.
One Table. Your Story.

Before VANA had a name, it had a workbench. In 1965, in Taiping, Wayne's grandmother Madam Go founded Tai Hee Jade and Jewellery — sourcing jadeite and precious gemstones, and growing it into a wholesale house that supplied the trade across Malaysia.

Wayne Lau grew up learning stones the way most people learn their mother tongue: by handling thousands of them. Diamonds under the loupe. Jadeite held against the light. Pearls rolled between fingers to feel the nacre.

In 2016, Wayne and his wife Emily Tan — the woman our clients affectionately call Mrs. VANA — stepped away from wholesale to build something quieter: a private, by-appointment jeweller where you sit with the same two people every time, and talk about the moment you're marking.

Jewellery was never meant to be a transaction. It was always meant to be a story you can hold.

Is a private jeweller more expensive than a retail shop?

Usually the opposite. Without mall rental and commissioned sales staff, more of your budget goes into the stone and craftsmanship. We'll show you the grading so you can compare like-for-like.

How do I book an appointment?

Natural vs lab-grown diamonds — what's the difference?

Chemically identical; the difference is origin, rarity and price. We stock both and explain the trade-offs honestly so the choice is genuinely yours.

How do I know if jadeite is good quality?

Colour vividness, translucency, texture, and treatment disclosure (Type A vs B/C). We grade every piece against the light, in front of you.

Is bespoke more expensive than ready-made?

Often comparable. You pay for craftsmanship instead of retail markup. Redesigning inherited pieces can cost less than buying new.
